ARRIVAL AT THE RACE SITE
- Go to the registration tent - big white
tent near the swim start.
- Register and receive your packet.
This will include your swim cap, race bib number and bike number
(helmet number included for Esprit and Demi-Esprit participants).
- Check that your name, age group and other
information is correct.
- Verify your wave start time.
- Put your bike number on your bike.
- Get body marked just outside of the registration
tent.
- Pick up your computer chip at the Sportstats
tent beside the registration tent.
- Esprit and Demi-Esprit
participants also pick up your bike computer chip from Sportstats.
- Once you have all of your race numbers
and computer chips, you are ready to enter the Transition
Area.
- In the Transition Area make sure you select
the correct bike rack row for your race and your wave start.
- Note the “water bottle fill up station”
just before entering the transition area.
DON'T GET DQ'ed
- No race ever wants to have participants
DQ’ed. Most DQ’s can be avoided by knowing the
basic rules. Course marshals have the authority to disqualify participants.
Here are a few general rules you need to know and abide by:
General rules that apply:
- Ipods and headphones are forbidden
on the course.
- Your torso must be covered at all times.
- No outside help during the triathlon is
permitted.
- You must shower before going for a massage.
Hot showers are in the Athlete’s Quarters.
- Good sportsmanship is demanded from all
participants. Any unsportsmanlike behavior is grounds for disqualification.
- A “Thank You” to volunteers
will go a long way in showing them how much we appreciate their
generous contribution to the race.
Transition Area
- Only participants are permitted in the TA.
- You must pick up your race packet before
entering the TA.
- Pick up your computer chip before entering
the TA.
- Esprit and Demi-Esprit
participants also pick up your bike computer chip to count laps.
- Your bike number must be on the bike, close
to the handle bars before entering the TA.
- You may only walk or run with your bike
in the TA - no riding your bike.
- Your helmet chin strap must be fastened
before leaving your bike rack and not unfastened until your bike
is racked again.
- You must mount/dismount your bike in the
appropriate zones.
Swim
- WETSUITS ARE PERMITTED.
- All swimmers must wear the swim cap provided
by the race.
- Self-seed yourself in the water. Let the
fast swimmer leave before you. A wait of 10-20 seconds will assure
you plenty of room. What's 10 seconds when you're racing for a
long time?
Cycle
- There is NO BIKE WARM UP.
- There is NO DRAFTING allowed
on the bike course. (See drafting rule link above)
- Ipods and headphones are forbidden
on the course.
- Slower riders, stay on the inside
of the Circuit (on the left side) at all times. Do not cut
corners - this is for the fastest rider.
- There will be a bike repair station on the
course. You may not have any other help in repairing a mechanical
problem on your bike other than our official repair mechanics.
- If you need repairs to your bicycle during
the race, you can stop at the bike repair tent located just before
the hair pin turn, or you can ask one of the motorcycle outriders
to bring a bike mechanic to you on the course. AT NO TIME, and
for no reason, may your bike be transported by someone else.
- When you enter the bike course, move gradually
to the inside of the Circuit. As you complete your final lap and
are preparing to exit the bike course, make sure you are on the
right side (outside) of the course, well in advance of the exit,
so that you do not have to cross other cyclists.
Run
- Your race number must be on your front during
the run course.
- Ipods and headphones are forbidden
on the course.
- No pacers are permitted during the run.
- Note: After 19h00, Esprit
Ironman Distance participants may be paced by another
runner.
- Esprit and Demi-Esprt participants
will receive an orange wristband on your final lap. (Esprit - 9th
lap and Demi-Esprit - 4th lap)
Safety info:
- Be careful entering and exiting the swim
course.
- Once admitted into the TA, do a TA walk-through
to familiarize yourself with the layout.
- Drink lots of fluids on the course.
- If you are not a great swimmer, give the
pack 10-20 seconds to move out before you race after them! What’s
10 seconds when you are racing for a very long time?
- Do not bring your children with you to cross
the finish line.
- Medical personnel shall have the ultimate
and final authority to remove a participant from the race if they
judge the participant to be physically incapable of continuing
the race without risk of serious injury. Medical transport of any
participant will result in disqualification. If you withdraw
from the race at any time, please notify an official with a walkie-talkie.
For your own safety and our peace of mind, it is essential that
we know where you are on the course at all times.
