Your Race Number
There is 1 race bib.
This bib must be worn on your front for the run portion. Your bike
number must be installed on your bike as close to the handle bars
as possible. Your helmet number (Esprit and Demi-Esprit only) should
be placed on the right hand side of your cycling helmet. Your
race bib and bike number are necessary for entering and leaving
the transition area. You may not enter the transition area until
you have your race bib, bike number and computer chip (from the
Sportstats tent next to the registration tent). Esprit and
Demi-Esprit participants will also receive a bike computer chip
for lap counting. All participants’ bib numbers and
bike numbers will be verified when you leave the transition area
with your bike.
Medical Information
You will find a medical questionnaire on
the back of your race bib. You must complete this
questionnaire for your own safety.
Medical supervision will be evident throughout
the race. The medical staff has the right to stop any participant
during the triathlon or to disqualify an athlete for his own safety.
However, please remember that if a medic stops you or if you receive
medical attention on the course, this does not necessarily mean
that you are disqualified. We will have numerous physiotherapists,
nurses and doctors circling the course. The main medical area will
be situated near the finish line. Massages will be available near
the medical area after the race.
Categories
Each participant will
be placed in an age group category according to his/her age on
December 31st, 2012. At registration please make sure you are in
your proper age category and verify all other personal information.
There will be awards for the top 3 finishers in each age group.
NO Bicycle
Inspection
There will be no bike
inspection as you are responsible for the safety of your own bicycle.
Mechanics from MARTIN'S SWISS CYCLE will be on
hand at registration and during the race to help you with any minor
repairs or adjustments. To help you avoid any unnecessary
cycle breakdowns during the race, The
Martin Swiss Pre Race Bike Check List is a must read for all participants.

Pre Race
Check List from Martin Swiss
-Make sure your bike is in good working order This means that
the brakes and gears are properly adjusted before the race. Take
your bike to the shop to get the mechanics to check it over.
-Make sure your tires are in good shape Check the sidewalls of
your tires for cracking and flaking. If you notice any wear, you
should replace your tires immediately. If your tires are older
than three years, you should take them to the shop to get them
checked.
-Be prepared At the very least, have a tube that is the right
size for your bike. If you aren’t sure what size you need,
take your bike to the shop and they will be able to help you.
Other useful items to have: tire levers, a mini tool and a mini
pump or a CO2 cartridge, all of which can easily be stored in
a small pouch under the seat.
-Have slick tires Ideally, ride a road bike, but if this is not
possible, at least have slick tires. These are inexpensive and
will make you go much faster. Also, although we do our best to
be prepared for all eventualities, if you have up-to-date equipment,
it is much more likely that we will have the spare parts you might
need.
-Don’t wait until the last minute to get your bike tuned
up We want to make sure that everyone goes to the start line
with their equipment in the best possible working order. With
that in mind, we set aside tune up appointments two weeks in
advance. For your peace of mind, don’t wait until the day
before. There is a chance we won’t be able to get to you.
Come early and we’ll guarantee our service.
-Get fitted If you have just bought a new bike for the event,
if you have borrowed someone else’s, or even if you just
aren’t quite comfortable on your current bike, come in and
get fitted. It is the single biggest improvement in performance
you can make in an hour.
-Have Fun and Good Luck! |
Special Needs Bags (SN): Esprit
and Demi-Esprit
Esprit Ironman Distance and Demi-Esprit
participants, if you need a "Special
Needs" bag ask for one at registration. SN is for any special
needs (i.e. gel, sandwiches, etc...) that you want given to you
during the bike or run. Before the race, put your SN bags
into the appropriate bins (COURSE/RUN or VELO/BIKE) on the Special
Needs table located in your transition zone. Do not put anything
in this bag that you want back after the race.
Computer Chip
Sportstats of Ottawa,
Ontario is our timing company. Sportstats uses the "CHAMPION
CHIP" computer timing system. Race morning you must go
to the Sportstats tent located beside the registration big white
tent, and pick up your ankle computer chip. This chip must
be worn throughout the race, including the swim portion. Once you
cross the Finish Line volunteers will remove the chip from your
ankle.
Esprit
Ironman Distance and Demi-Esprit
participants will also pick
up a bike computer chip for the lap counting on the Circuit.
You must install this chip on your wheel sprocket.
