We have designed a criterium course where family, friends and spectators will be able to watch you continuously as you race against yourself and the clock. We all "pick-it-up" when there is an audience! Those who want to have that personal accomplishment will enjoy the ESPRIT experience. Our course will keep you in touch with everyone and everything throughout the race. Good luck and a safe race to everyone!

General Montréal Information
Training at the race site
If you are in Montreal and wish to train on Île Notre-Dame, you may do so. The Circuit is always open for cycling, you may run just about anywhere you wish. However, there is no swimming permitted in the Olympic Rowing Basin. On Friday afternoon during race registration, the Parc Jean-Drapeau authorities permit triathletes to “try out the water”. Only during this time is there swimming in the basin.
Parking
Friday during registration, park in P2 and pay at the kiosque. On Saturday, race day, Esprit Ironman Distance, Demi-Esprit and Duathlon athletes (the earlier race start times) have access to P2—No vehicles will be permitted to leave P2 before 13h00. A maximum of 500 pre-paid passes will be sold at registration on Friday night. If you do not have a pre-paid parking pass, the 15$ fee will be collected on arrival.

Athlete Drop-off: Athletes being dropped off should use parking area located beside the Biosphere, just before the small bridge (Pont du Cosmos).

Upon arrival at the race site

[ Ipods and headphones are forbidden on the course. ]

  • Go to the registration tent - big white tent near the swim start.
  • Register and receive your packet.  This will include you swim cap, race bib number and bike number (helmet number included for Esprit and Demi-Esprit participants).
  • Check that you name, age group and other information is correct.
  • Verify your wave start time.
  • Put your bike number on your bike.
  • Get body marked just outside of the registration tent.
  • Pick up your computer chip at the Sportstats tent beside the registration tent.
  • Esprit and Demi-Esprit participants also pick up your bike computer chip from Sportstats.
  • Once you have all of your race numbers and computer chips, you are ready to enter the Transition Area.
  • In the Transition Area make sure you select the correct bike rack row for your race and your wave start.
  • Note the “water bottle fill up station” just before entering the transition area.

Lost and Found
Lost & Found articles should be brought to, or picked up, at the main registration table under the big white tent.
Novice Triathelete Seminar:

The Montreal Esprit Triathlon sees more first time triathletes than any race in Canada. Our course is perfect for first-timers as much as for experienced triathletes who are hoping to clock their best time (PR). Anatasia Polito host a free seminar for our rookie triathletes. Toilets and showers 

Spectators:
There are comfortable public washrooms in the Athletes’ Quarters, the large building along the finish line. There are eight port-o-johns behind the boat garages situated behind the medical tent area. On the Circuit there are toilets under the grandstands.

Athletes:
- There are comfortable public washrooms in the Athletes’ Quarters, the large building along the finish line. You may use these washrooms as well as the hot showers.

- There are seven port-o-johns in the Olympic Transition Area along the south side.  There is one port-o-john in the Esprit / Demi-Esprit transition area for these participants during their race.  These athletes may also us the port-o-johns in the Olympic Transition Area.

-  On the cycle course there is one port-o-john located at the “Pits Area”. 

-  On the run course there is one port-o-john at the mid point on the south side of the basin and many indoor toilets at the Garage Grand-Prix on the north side of the basin

POST RACE AMENITIES
Upon completion of the your event you MUST take a shower (available in the athletes' quarters) if you wish to receivie a massage (available at a nominal charge). The Esprit Ironman Distance participants will receive a complimentary massage. At this time you will receive post race food under the tent (registration tent) in the Athlete Village. Food and massage will be available until midnight for late Esprit Triathlon finishers.

HOST HOTELS

Our host hotel is Le Centre Sheraton Montréal at 1201 René-Levesque West, Montréal, Québec H3B 2L7 (514)878-2000. Our special room rate is $179 single/double plus taxes. The registration cutoff date for this room rate is August 25, 2012.You can make your reservation by phone at: (800)325-3535 asking for the Esprit Triathlon rate. We are using the Centre Sheraton for 2012 because they are providing a secure storage room for your bikes. Most hotels will not allow bikes into your room.

 

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation to and from the host hotel and other hotels situated close to the host hotel is available from the boys at “Dirt Camp”.  Dirt Camp has 2 vans that can each transport 12 bicycles and 15 people.  The vans will depart downtown Montreal at 05h00 for the trip to Parc Jean-Drapeau.  Starting at 14h00 they will return participants to their hotels on an individual basis.

Cost for this transportation is: 1 way 20$  -   return 30$ plus taxes.

AWARDS CEREMONY

Plaques are awarded 3 deep in all age groups. With the many wave starts, we will present Age Group Awards on a continuing basis. For all distances, 30 minutes after an Age Group Winner crosses the finish line, winners can pick up your Age Group Awards at the Awards Stafe in the Triathlete Village.

ESPRIT (Ironman Distance) AWARDS CEREMONY
Participants:
Plaques are awarded 3 deep in all age groups. If you are a winner of an award, we will be presenting this to you upon completion of your race. We have found that most participants want to return home very early on Sunday morning. For those of you who are leaving later in the day, we have a brunch at Ristorante PINO: 1471 Crescent Street, from 09h00 and 10h30. Here you will be able to meet many of your fellow participants and talk with the race director and many of the staff of the Montreal Esprit Triathlon. Participants in the Esprit Ironman Distance Triathlon have their brunch complimentary. You are welcome to bring your family and friends.

SPECTATOR SIGNS

We want to encourage spectators to bring signs and set them up around the course. Where else can one sign be seen by your athlete "all day and night long"? Signs to encourage ALL the athletes are very much appreciated!

We cannot promise the heat and humitity of the IRONMAN in Hawaii but the following table is the projected temperature according to the averages which have been taken since 1871:
