Swim |
 |
|
WETSUITS
ARE PERMITTED!
The swim will be in the Olympic
Rowing Basin. The Basin is a 2 km long, 100 m wide and 3 m deep
swimming pool. There is no current in the basin. The water has been
tested and is superior for swimming. Wind will have zero wave effect.
The expected water temperature will be 22°C (around 72°F)
and we recommend wet suits. The course is a down-and-back swim.
Spectators can walk along the basin wall on the stands side
and watch the swimmers. There are cables under the water for
the rowing lanes. Follow a cable and keep yourself in a straight
line!
Swimmers Bridge
There
is an 8 ft high bridge for swimmers to cross over the runners.
This bridge makes it possible to hold all the race distances in
1 day. The Esprit Ironman Distance, Demi-Esprit and
Duathlon participants DO NOT use the bridge. The
Olympic and Sprint triathletes can opt not to use the bridge by
crossing the runners on the left hand side of the bridge.
Here a volunteer will stop you until there are no runners approaching
the bridge. Runners always have the right-of-way. You may have to
wait longer than it takes to cross over the bridge but you will
avoid the climb.

Bike |
 |
|
The cycle consists
of laps of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve which is the site of the
Formula 1 Canadian Grand-Prix. The 4.4 km loop has the best
road surface in North America. Our computer timing system will count
the laps for the triathletes. Cyclists should always stay left except
to pass. Important: Slower cyclists should
never cut corners as faster cyclists will be coming from behind.
On each lap you will have access to the aid station or "PITS"
(see info on aid stations). The distance on your bike computer will
give you a good idea of where you are on the course and you can
check this against our count which is shown on a video monitor
just before the hair pin turn. This monitor indicates your
bib number and the number of laps which you have completed.
REMEMBER,
move to the right when you are preparing to exit the course on your
final lap.
There will be no bike
inspection as you are responsible for the safety of your bicycle.
Mechanics from MARTIN SWISS CYCLE will be on hand
at registration and during the race to help you with any minor repairs
or adjustments which you may need.
The Martin Swiss Cycle Pre Bike Check List is
a must read for all participants (click here). This checklist
could help you to avoid unnecessary breakdowns during the race.

Run |
 |
|
The run starts at
the back of the Transition Area. You will run directly onto the
Voie Maritime. Once back on the basin wall, you will circle the
Olympic Rowing Basin's 4.7 km route. The course will have
you pass to the right of the Finish Line on the water side and through
the Triathlete Village. (Sprint and Duathlon – 5 km
run participants run directly to the Finish Line). In
the Triathlete Village you will go under the swimmers’bridge.
The run course is flat and fast. Esprit Ironman Distance and Demi-Esprit
participants will be given an orange wristband on your final lap
( lap 9 for Esprit and lap 4 for Demi-Esprit). |

Transition
Area
To make your race more enjoyable,
spend a few minutes during registration looking over the transition
area. Note the swim start/return, the bike start/return, the
run start/return and the swimmers’ bridge. Know where you
have to go, location of the toilets, hot showers in the Athletes’
Quarters, changing tent, water bottle fill-up-station and anything
else you may think will help you on race day. Body Marking is
located beside the registration big white tent, as is the computer
chip pickup (Sportstats tent).
Special
Needs (SN) Drop-off (Esprit Ironman Distance and Demi-Esprit
only)
If you need a "Special Needs" bag,
ask for one at registration. SN bags are for any special needs
(i.e. gel, sandwiches, etc...) that you want given to you during
the bike or run. Before the race, place this bag(s) into the
appropriately marked box: Course/Run or Velo/Bike, on the Special
Needs table located in the Esprit / Demi-Esprit transition area.
Make sure your race number is marked on your SN bags. The SN
pickup on the bike course is at the PITS area. On the run
course it is at the first Water Stop on the basin wall, just
past the swim start area.
Do not put anything in the SN bags that you want back after the
race.

Aid
Stations
Aid on the Bike Course:
For the bike segment, you will be completing a 4.4 km loop many
times. Just before the Hair Pin Turn on the right hand side,
we will have our "PITS AREA". The "PITS" is
the aid station with bottled water, eload, bagels and bananas.
Washrooms, mechanic, massage, medical personnel and the Special
Needs bags pickup are also in this area. We will be recycling
the water bottles, so please discard the used bottles at the
designated hockey nets around the pits area.
Aid on the Run Course: There are 2 water stops on the
Voie Maritime which will provide water and eload. As you run
your laps of the Olympic Basin, there are 3 aid stations per
lap. All aid stations will have water and eload. The Esprit Ironman
Distance and Demi-Esprit triathletes will also have Coke, fruit,
bagels and salted pretzels available at the 1st and 2nd water
stops. The Special Needs bags will be at the first aid station
just past the swim start area.

Computer
Chip
Sportstats of Ottawa, Ontario is
our timing company. Sportstats uses the "CHAMPION
CHIP" computer timing system. Race morning you must
go to the Sportstats tent located beside the registration big
white tent, and pick up your ankle computer chip. This
chip must be worn throughout the race, including the swim portion.
Once you cross the Finish Line volunteers will remove the chip
from your ankle.
Esprit Ironman Distance and Demi-Esprit
participants will also pick up a bike computer chip
for the lap counting on the Circuit. You must install this
chip on your wheel sprocket.
